As a pet photographer, I’ve spent countless hours capturing the unique beauty and personality of peoples dogs and our rescues. Each dog has its own story, and I find immense joy in telling those stories through my lens.
However, earlier this year a friend reached out with a request.
As a professional storyteller she was in need of new promotional photographs for her website and asked me for help with this.
Now, to be all honest, she also asked me to bring one of my dogs.
Added to that the fact that she knows how to model and is a gifted photographer herself, made for an exciting challenge, one that has pushed me to grow and evolve in my craft.
Stepping out of my comfort zone to photograph people has been a thrilling experience. Unlike dogs, who are often delightfully spontaneous and unpredictable, people bring a different energy to a photoshoot. The interaction, the communication between the subject and the photographer, is unique to human portraiture.
Photographing people has reminded me of the universal truth in photography: whether the subject has two legs or four, the goal is always to capture something real, something that I found I am enjoying as much in photographing humans as with photographing animals.
As I continue to explore this new realm of photography, I’m excited to see where it takes me. I believe that trying new things is essential to growth, both as an artist and as a person. Whether I’m photographing a dog or a human, my aim remains the same: to create images that are not only visually striking but also rich in emotion and meaning.
If you’re interested in trying something new as well, whether it’s capturing your own portrait or your beloved pet, I’d love to embark on that journey with you. Let’s create something beautiful together.
